Event ReportThe Ripe Plastic Surgery Conference & Expo "The Fountain of Truth" was held on Sunday 4 August was a great success. Run in conjunction with the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and attended by approx. 80 people, the seminar was an honest and critical look at a variety of cosmetic plastic surgery procedures from laser resurfacing to full face lifts. Mr. Howard Webster spoke on breast surgery and gave delegates a comprehensive look at the different procedures involved. He discussed the importance of not just cosmetic enhancement or augmentation but breast reconstruction for cancer patients and reconstruction for breast deformities. Cosmetic plastic surgery is one of the fastest growing industries today but consumer information is limited to advertising and media. It's not often that the public is able to listen to six leading Australian plastic surgeons give the facts, unbiased and in depth. Another topic discussed was liposuction, one of the most requested procedures. Mr Alan Breidahl showed the delegates genuine before and after photos of patients that had undergone this procedure, sometimes with amazing results. These shots were at times graphic but presented a realistic view of plastic surgery procedures and enabled delegates to walk away and make informed choices when necessary. They were also warned of the risks and dangers associated with any procedure. Mr Keith Mutimer spoke on facial rejuvenation and Mr Ian Carlisle spoke about laser surgery. Ms Connie Gourvelos explained the importance of clinical skin care both before and after surgery and Mr Brett Archer and Ms Marilyn Cassetta discussed dermal fillers, such as Collagen and Botox. Many of the delegates commented on how much they had learnt from the conference and many were openly candid about their own plastic surgery experiences. Q&A was a time of complete objectivity and honesty for both doctors and audience members, many doctors expressing that it was unparalleled. There is no doubt that this was an extremely informative day and our thanks go once again to our event partner Collagen Aesthetics and the support of our many sponsors on the day, ebodybusiness.com, Allergan, Mentor, Advanced Skin Technology, Australian Institute of Laser Therapy and Q Med. Thank you also to the doctors for giving up their time.
